8TH GRADE TEAM - 41 vs. TRI-TOWN - 12
The 8th Graders returned to some home cooking on Sunday against Tri-Town with weather better meant for Artic waterfowl than football. Guilford came to play however, complete in “throw-back” Indian uniforms, and scored early and often enabling the Team to give many kids a chance at playing new positions and with lots of playing time for all. The game featured such twists as Hunter Martins scoring a PAT, Carson Sperry with some quick moves carrying the football, Aaron Cowee recovering a fumble and Tristan Park , Derek Batick and Joey Palmieri smothering the Tri-Town Offense at defensive line and in the secondary. The Offensive Line played well again led by Dane Lawrence, Freddy Trotta, Jon Paecht, Ford Linell, Hunter (when not playing QB) and Dave Laurie. KC Horton, Andrew Meoli , Ryan Hart and David Knapp scored TD’s for the Green Team.
Now it is on to the Playoffs for this hard working bunch of guys. Thanks to our fans for coming out all year – and especially this past Sunday. The Team gets energy from your cheers and screams – so keep it coming!

5TH GRADE TEAM - 0 at EAST HAVEN - 25
On a cold and rainy day, the Guilford boys had a tough time with an undefeated East Haven team - but it wasn't for lack of effort. Able to drive the ball at times, turnovers played a huge role in slowing down the Guilford running machine. The kids really hung tough and played an aggressive second half and should be proud of their efforts. Time to get ready for the playoffs.

4TH GRADE TEAM - 24 vs. MADISON B - 0
It was a cold October day. The sun refused to shine and the North wind blew with a fury laced with rain and sleet that would have made even the stoutest of mailman beg for hot cocoa and a warm blanket by a fire. Not so for G4, they’re made of sturdier stuff than this. Was it too cold? Was it too wet? Ask any one of them and you’ll just get a knowing smile and a twinkle in the eye because they knew that this was their day and woe betide the poor souls who dared to venture on their field this day. This was a great day to play Football!
Colin ‘Pele’ Keith started Madison deep in their own territory with a kickoff worthy of his name. It was a wild but short-lived return that Carter ‘CC’ Cox stuffed like a cheap Build-a-Bear. Play from scrimmage fared no better for the boys from across the way. They were pounded into mincemeat between the Rock and the Ram – Adam ‘AdRock’ Perotti and Lucas ‘The Ram’ Napolitano closed the gates to the outside while Miles ‘Mighty Mite’ Gabriel gave them more than they could handle up the middle.
With the ball safely back in G4 hands the Guilford O quickly got to work. After a brief vacation and special spa treatment this week for a mild neck ache, Logan ‘MJ Loganator’ Driscoll gave a lesson in running the ball that was not to be missed. With a few key blocks from the best line in football anchored by Will ‘.44 Magnum’ Lawrence and Charlie ‘Diesel’ Andrus there was only one way to go for all the G4 glory boys – Forward! Not to be outdone, Kyle ‘Bread Man’ Horton decided it was his turn to show a little razzle-dazzle and put on a floor show Arthur Murray would be proud of. Nick ‘Giggles’ Ferrara, Tanner ‘T-Pain’ Small and Nick ‘Goldfinger’ George opened a hole up the middle so wide the Bread Man could have stopped to sign autographs – and I think he did! With the ball on the 5-yard line Sam ‘Sam Bam’ Jankura proved who the best athlete on the field was this day. With his body twisted like a salty mall pretzel he was still able to maintain his composure, break through the tiger’s maw and somehow get the ball back to MJ Loganator who took it the last five yards breaking tackles all the way for the day’s first score.
The second quarter offered no better hope for Madison. The G4 Defense swarmed like a pack of mad dogs. T-Pain, Mike ‘The Hammer’ Burchell, AdRock, Colin ‘Black Eyed Pete’ Downer, Mike ‘LT’ Stebbins, and Jack ‘Lambert’ Gabriel all got some up front. The monster line backing crew of David ‘Meat’ Meade, Derek ‘D Train’ Ralston, Pele, and MJ Loganator showed you didn’t need to go to the movies to find out where the wild things are – they were right here in Guilford laying the smackdown on all comers! There was just nowhere to go and when they tried to kick their way out Mighty Mite simply said, “Denied”. It was worth every penny of the admission and all the pain and suffering Mother Nature could muster up that day. Up the middle, through the full strength of the Tiger line, Mighty Mite just wouldn’t be stopped – Punt Blocked!
With good field position, Bread Man hustled and slunk his way to the 1-yard line. He would have scored but a bad spot by the Refs kept him short. Sam Bam knocked this one out on his own behind Giggles and Pele putting G4 up by 12.
Defense was again the order of the day as Goldfinger, Black Eyed Pete, Brett ‘Chinstrap’ Skapczynski, and Charlie ‘Rhino’ Pena combined for enough sacks, hurries, stuffs, pancakes, forced fumbles, and fumble recoveries to just suck the wind right out of the Madison sails – a tough thing to do on a day like this one to be sure!
Why didn’t they go to the air or the outside you might ask? Have you seen the G4 secondary? Aaron ‘AK-47’ Korik, Ryan ‘The Matador’ Costanzo, Jack ‘Zorn’ Strand, Alex ‘Buch’ Bucci, Sean ‘Night Train’ Russell, Brennan ‘Von’ Kaisen, Tyler ‘Cheesesteak’ Filley; there’s just nowhere to go folks! And if they did manage to get to the outside, the price was just too high to pay. The authorities could be seen for hours after the game looking for the stick Cheesesteak used to turn a Tiger into a Tabby!
With a comfortable lead it was time to start managing the clock. Behind the solid running of Ian ‘Slaughter’ Slattery and Meat Meade, the minutes just melted off the clock. That wasn’t enough though. MJ Loganator was either too tired to run the ball more than one more time or he simply wanted to play defense; we may never know. What we do know is he decided to score on his next touch and save the coaches the trouble of figuring out what play to call next – at 18-0, so much for needing a strategy.
Madison wasn’t to be so easily defeated. Generations of tradition and Tiger Pride were enough to spark on the dreaded foe. They clawed their way deep into G4 territory but tradition doesn’t win football games. Teamwork and hard work are the only things that get it done and G4 proved their mettle this day.
When Black Eyed Pete came up with yet another recovery it was back in the hands of the capable G4 O. LT Stebbins, tired of sacking and stuffing on D and blocking on O, decided it was his turn. He took the ball a couple of times for minimal gains to get his rhythm and with the ball deep in G4 territory took one up the middle from the 8-yard line through the core of the Tiger D. With some fancy footwork of his own, he broke left to the outside shedding tackle after tackle – there was just no stopping this juggernaut! 92 yards later – yes 92 – LT capped the day with the fourth G4 TD and the longest TD from scrimmage in G4 history!
Well, Pele Kieth was only contracted for five kick offs per game and with those safely under his belt it was up to The Ram Napolitano to get the job done. No worries there though, he sent one sailing deep past the Tigers offering no return. The Tigers finished the day with the ball but it didn’t do them any good. The G4 D was just too much.
With this win, G4 earns home field advantage to kick off the first round of post-season play. Looking to watch a good football game? Check out the TV, there’s plenty there. Want to see GREAT football? There’s only one place to be next Sunday; that’s in the stands at G4’s home field as they take on the Warriors of Tri-Town in the first round of the first ever SYFC Bowl Series!
Get there early, you don’t want to miss this one!
