8TH GRADE TEAM - 6  at  MADISON - 8
Guilford G8 traveled to Madison to take on the always strong Tigers – and left Town having played hard but suffered their 1st loss. It was a defensive battle with both teams struggling to put the ball in the endzone. Madison scored first, matched later by a Guilford TD but when Guilford failed to convert on the PAT, the game ended Madison 8, Guilford 6.

The Defense played well all day and kept Guilford in the game. It was a tough loss but these young men don’t quit. Guilford G8 will lick its wounds as it looks forward to some home cooking to take on Tri-Town at GHS on Sunday.

7TH GRADE TEAM - 25  at  MILFORD - 7
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWW!

What better time for all of you to put it together? I guess the old saying, "better late than never" is applicable to you!

What you did on Sunday, from beginning to end was just plain remarkable. Most teams would have folded and sent it in. You went for it and took it. Thanks for letting us be part of the fun. Milford really did give it everything they had, and they also wanted it. That is what makes your win a true victory.

Here's the skinny;

This week you elected your team captains, rather than the coaches. You took it seriously and acted as brothers in choosing them.

When we took the field, Captain's Gazoo Singleton, Spud Iassogna, Sam Sham Cohen and Rammer Ranfone all responded with great effort and play as well as cheering and support. It would definitely have been better with our fallen/missing brothers.

Our line was the best it has ever been as a unit on both offense and defense. Otis Ek (as usual) was the best lineman ON THE FIELD! Thing, Sham, Guido, Driver, Bug and of course, Stone Cold all played above their capacity. You ALL gave it your fullest measure!

Our defense was terrific, led by Tony-O, a vicious hitter who reminds me of a GHS player(#3), and of course The Intimidator Lundberg, who tends to shut down anything coming at him. Calendar Boy and Pez were vigilant as safeties and Johnny was just plain fun to watch with big play at OLB. Spud and Otis as well as Stone Cold were brutal(in a good way) at ILB. Nothing came up the middle on us..........nothing!

Our corners, Per, Ricky Bobby, Gazoo, Johnny and Wolverine all made big plays at corner........all morning!

As for offense, what can I say.............25 points! More than we had scored cumulatively all season! Our line as mentioned above was just plain great. Our backs, Tony-O and Jake were dominating, and our receivers ran great patterns. Johnny's catch, with a perfectly thrown Ross ball was just fun....................didn't I tell you John, if you run the pattern..................it will come! Great job! Otis Ek, Stone Cold and Spud blocked like Big Ten lineman.

Our special teams were also excellent on the day, with a huge fumble recovery by Crayola. Talk about a turn of events, great job boy!

A couple of other notes, thanks to a great job by my staff; Frank, Burt, Bob and Kara. I would also like to note that (I usually wouldn't point this out!), the cheerleaders and their coaches did an outstanding job keeping the excitement up in this one. The fact that I noticed this during a game warrants a mention in our wrap-up. Thanks girls, it was extra-special and we all appreciate it, even an old curmudgeon like me!

Finally, lets thank our parents and extended families for their unyielding support. What is most important to the players is support, through wins and losses.

That about wraps it up, except for the Skynyrd line;

" I like to thank you for the times you have been with me and I hope it meant as much to you to share these memories. There's a guiding light that always seems to shine on me and If I did it again, I'd be happy 'til the end."

See ya' Wed.(NO uniforms, just shorts/sweats)

Coach Joe

6TH GRADE TEAM - 0  vs.  MADISON B - 25

5TH GRADE TEAM - 31  vs.  CHESHIRE - 6
The Guilford boys performed well in defeating a "game" Cheshire squad. In a total team effort there were a number of boys who had standout performances. Jake Moscarelli started the scoring with a long run on one of the first plays from scrimmage. Following a nice drive by the Cheshire squad - keyed by a long run on a broken play - Moscarelli got Guilford back on the board. The extra point took the score to 13-6. Following an interception by Brandon (The Beast) Filley, the boys punched in another TD on a pass from Zach (Z Man) Conover to Chucky Karol.

With a 19-6 lead at the half, the boys came out for the second half looking as strong as ever. Behind great blocking up the middle by Wills Smith, Big Ben Currier put the Guilford boys up 25-6. Alex Cardinale and the left side of the line of AJ Moscato and Anthony (Double A) Avallone opened up a huge hole for Currier to run through. For the final TD of the day Z-Man called his own number. Faking half the Cheshire team out of their shoes, Z Man took a bootleg up the sidelines for a TD. Defensively, the boys looked tough all day - never really giving the Cheshire team a chance to get their offense going.

4TH GRADE TEAM - 6  vs.  EAST HAVEN - 27
