The weather Sunday forced all teams to return to football's fundamental roots in a wet slippery hard hitting game with Guilford facing Cheshire at Kavanaugh Field. Guilford started on a drive highlighted by great runs by Nate "Lil Earl" Tepley, & Nick "Boulder" Moscato. Guilford scored in the first quarter and capped it off with a 2 pt conversion by Ben Fazzina. While on defense, Guilford showed its toughness with great tackles by Nick "Sunshine" Poretta, Billy Conover, & Korey "the Alien" Carregal. After a 3 and out, Guilford marched down & scored again with great runs by Jack Jankura & Ben Fazzina. A missed 2 point conversion made the score 14-0 at the half. Guilford started the 2nd half on defense shutting down Cheshire's drive with more great plays by Cody "Flash" Cox & Dan "the Man" McCloskey. The remainder of the game was marked by a great defensive effort by Guilford shutting down Cheshire each time they drove into Guilford territory. A great hit by Nick "White Pants" Moscarelli, eliminated any momentum Cheshire accrued. The game ended with a soaked 14-0 win for Guilford.

The Guilford boys had a real nice team effort in securing their third win of
the season. After Jake Moscarelli grabbed the first two TD's of the game to
take an early 12-0 lead, the defense came up big time and time again. A
long drive led mostly by the running of "Crazy Legs" Bright led to
Guilford's third TD in the first half. Coming off the turf after an injury,
"Crazy Legs" wanted the ball again and took it in from a few yards out for
his first TD of the season. It was a real gutsy effort. Guilford took a
18-0 lead into the half.
In the second half, everyone managed to get in on the action. "Big Ben"
Currier scored on a long run behind the blocking of AJ Moscato and "Double
A" Anthony Avallone. When the boys got the ball back, there was a variety
of new faces charging up the offense. Led by Steven "Naps" Napoli at QB,
the running threesome of "Crazy Legs", Brandon "Beast" Filley, and "Slick"
Billy Gorman ran the ball down to the two yard line. From there, the
"Beast" took over and scored his first TD of the year. Defensively,
throughout the second half, the defense came up big. The middle linebacker
play of Daniel "Hacksaw" Andrien and the line play of Josh Lindren, John
Portocarrero and Andrew Mitchell consistently shut the Branford offense down
and/or created turnovers. Overall, it was a great team effort.
